Romanian baptism photography in London: St Dunstan-in-the-West on Fleet Street
It was such a pleasure photographing this baptism. I captured the careful preparations at home as their gorgeous little baby was dressed first in a traditional Romanian outfit, and then in a handmade outfit for the service itself. It was lovely to see her godmother doting on the baby, clearly going to be a great godmother! Her parents were so happy to have their family over from Romania, and I made sure to take lots of photographs of the various family members. I also photographed the beautiful rainbow cake with pastel colour sugar decorations, and the stunning flowers the family had organised.
The service was held at the Romanian church on Fleet Street: St Dunstan-in-the-West. The building was absolutely stunning – probably one of my favourite ceilings to date! I worked around the other family being baptised, composing each image so that the other family didn’t appear in the photographs at all. This is a bit of an artform in itself, and definitely takes quite a bit of experience.
It was lovely to see the whole family transfixed by the service, with great solemnity at times but also enjoying the lighter moments of the ceremony.
The baby wasn’t at all happy about being submerged in the urn of water, but this is so often the case. Parents can always choose if they’d like to keep photographs of the less happy moments, but as it’s the key moment of the day most families choose to keep them as a record of an important event in their child’s life.
The photographs together tell the story of the day – the little details, the emotions, the cuddles and kisses, and of course the key moments of the service.
Louise documented my baby’s baptism in a lovely and warm manner, capturing beautiful moments, details and reactions. These will be invaluable memories for us. Thank you so much for your beautiful work!”
